Tour Summary
On this motorcycle expedition through South Africa, you’ll visit a stunning array of rugged landscapes, historic villages, and legendary mountain routes along the Lesotho border.
After arrival at Pietermaritzburg Airport, we roll out through the green Midlands before linking up with the scenic Lower Lotheni Road on our way towards St Bernard’s Peak. It’s a beautiful introduction with open farmland, quiet valleys at the foothills of the Drakensberg mountains. From St Bernard’s we climb Naudé’s Nek Pass, one of the highest dirt passes in the country, before descending into the historic village of Rhodes. This small and remote mountain village gives us access to a network of legendary gravel passes. The trip is packed with bucket-list riding, meaning you’ll tackle famous and challenging dirt climbs including the legendary Sani Pass, and the rugged Tiffindell–Tenahead Traverse via Carlisleshoek Pass. The terrain is open wide, the air thin, and the sense of space is immense. We then cross into Lesotho and ride towards Thamathu Village, a remote and strikingly beautiful settlement far removed from everyday life. From there we make our way to the legendary Sani Pass, steep and unforgettable, before descending and riding back towards Howick.
